Deacon Andronik P. Kashevarof, 89, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord at home with his family on October 4, 2017—one day after he and Matushka Elekonida celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary and ten days shy of his 90th birthday.
Born on Saint George Island, AK on October 14, 1927, he was tonsured to the order of Reader in 1958 by Metropolitan Leonty [Turkevich] and served Saint George the Victorious Martyr Church, Saint George Island, for over 70 years. He was later ordained to the subdeaconate by Archbishop Gregory [Afonsky] and the diaconate by Bishop Innocent [Gula] on February 8, 1998. After his retirement from active ministry in 2014, he faithfully continued attending services at Saint Alexis Mission, Anchorage.
Deacon Andronik is survived by his loving wife, Matushka Elekonida; daughters Gladys [Anthony] and Beverly [Christopher]; sons Andronik, Jr. [Sharon], Gilbert, and Jeffery [Georgia]; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his biological parents, Eoff and Martha Philemonof, and his adoptive parents, Walter and Helen Kashevarof.
A Panikhida will be celebrated at the Evergreen Funeral Home, 737 “E” Street, Anchorage, AK at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7. Visitation will begin at Saint Innocent Cathedral, 401 Turpin Street, Anchorage, at noon on Wednesday, October 11. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with interment at Angelus Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Meal will be held at the cathedral at 5:30 p.m.
