Isabel Anne Anderson

Isabel Anne Anderson, 79, wife of the Very Rev. John Anderson, fell asleep in the Lord here on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004.

Born June 29, 1925 in York, PA, the daughter of Henry Oscar and Cora Kraft [Jones] Scott, she married John Wallace Anderson, a Lutheran pastor, on November 26, 1947. For many years they served in missionary work abroad.

In 1977 she and her husband converted to Orthodox Christianity. Her husband was ordained to the Holy Diaconate of the Orthodox Church in 1979 and to the Holy Priesthood the following year. Mrs. Anderson assisted Father John in his pastoral service, mostly in the Orthodox Church in America Diocese of the West.

From 1989 until 1993, she and Father John taught at Saint Tikhon Orthodox Theological Seminary, South Canaan, PA, after which they served as missionaries in Africa. She was also the author of “Building to Last: Stories for Families to Read Together in Their Daily Prayer Time,” which was published by Saint Tikhon Seminary Press. She also used her musical talents as a choir director.

The Andersons retired to Billings, MT.

Survivors include her husband, Father John; six children, Christina Soueidi and Eric S. Anderson of Billings; Per Seth Anderson of Harbor City, CA; Sara Johnson of Dodge Center, MN; Elizabeth Brewer of Mission Viejo, CA; and the Rev. Andrew J. Anderson of Wilmington, DE; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were celebrated at Saint Nicholas Church, Billings, October 17 and 18, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
