Julia Jacewicz-Fedorko, 98, fell asleep in the Lord at her home here on Thursday, December 30, 2004.
The widow of George Fedorko, Mrs. Jacewicz-Fedorko was born May 25, 1906, in Jersey City, NJ, one of six children of the late John and Theophila Jacewicz. She was employed as a clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad and also offered her clerical services to Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, South Canaan, PA, for many years.
She was a former member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Jersey City, and a faithful member of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery Church. She also sang in the choir of Holy Protection Church, New York, NY, under the direction of Prof. Nicholas Afonsky.
Mrs. Jacewicz-Fedorko was a beloved benefactress and friend of the monastery and seminary, serving on the schools’ board of trustees for many years. She was the founder and past president of the Friends of Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, a member of Saint Tikhon Century Association, and a generous supporter of Saint Tikhon’s orphanage and monastery. Her philanthropic spirit supported many opportunities for seminarians.
In recognition of her tireless efforts for the growth of the seminary and monastery, she received synodal citations from Metropolitans Theophilus, Ireney, Theodosius, and Herman, and a diocesan citation from Archbishop Kiprian. She was also a great benefactress to the Orthodox Church in Russia.
Mrs. Jacewicz-Fedorko is survived by her sister, Anna Dziamba, South Canaan, PA. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore, Stephen, and Andrew, and a sister, Eva.
Funeral services were celebrated on Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Monastery Church of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman. Interment followed in the monastery cemetery.
