Matushka Barbara Sweda Adamcio Puhalla, 87, of Olyphant, PA, wife of the late Archpriest Stephen Adamcio and mother of Archpriest John Adamcio, Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL, fell asleep in the Lord at home on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 after a brief illness.
Born in Olyphant, PA, the daughter of the late John and Martha Russen Sweda, Matushka Barbara was a graduate of Olyphant High School and a devoted member of All Saints Church who loved attending services and parish functions. Prior to her retirement she worked as the Director of Emergency Road Service at AAA Motor Club, Scranton, PA.
Father Stephen and Matushka Barbara served parishes in Robbins, OH; Herkimer, NY; Manville, NJ; and Alden Station and Ambridge, PA prior to Father Stephen’s repose in 1966. She was predeceased by her second husband Thomas Puhalla and her sister, Matushka Johanna Pianovich.
In addition to her son, Father John, and his wife Matushka Melania, she is survived by her daughter, Melany Adamcio and her husband John Eller, Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Vera Wasacz, San Francisco, CA and Matushka Martha Ermakov, Pittsburgh, PA; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
On Friday, June 26, visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the John J. Turko and Sons Funeral Home, 404 Susquehanna Ave., Olyphant, PA, where a Panikhida will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends will gather at All Saints Church for the Funeral Service on Saturday, June 27, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Peckville, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to All Saints Church and/or AsceraCare Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
