Matushka Doris “Daria” Mason, 85, wife of Archpriest John Mason, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2014. A resident of Hagerstown, MD, she attended Saint Catherine Church.
Born on August 5, 1929 in Old Forge, PA, Matushka Doris was the 10th child of Anna (Diddick) and Dimitri Millian and graduated from Old Forge High School in 1948. She married John Mason on May 20, 1951 at Saint Michael’s Church, Old Forge. Acting as his right hand, she faithfully shared her husband’s ministry serving parishes in Robins, OH; Altoona, PA; Meriden, CT; Akron/Mogadore, OH; Yonkers, NY; and Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Humble and modest, Matushka Doris was a dedicated mother, excellent cook, and a gracious hostess who was always ready with a welcoming smile and hug.
She was preceded in death by Serge, her beloved son, on June 16, 2003. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years; children Deborah of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; Gregory (Susan), Lexington, KY; Tamara (Mark Kocsis), Long Beach, CA; Susan, Lake Worth, FL; daughter-in-law Mary Sue, Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Katrina, Nicholas (Rachel) and Natalie (Joe Kennedy); step-grandchildren Jason, Rebecca and Emily; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will held at Holy Trinity Church, 401 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA on Tuesday, October 14, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. A Parastas will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. The Funeral service will be celebrated the same evening at 6:30 p.m. A Requiem will be celebrated at Saint Tikhon’s Monastery Church, South Canaan, PA, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, followed by interment in the monastery cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, PO Box 130, South Canaan, PA 18459.
