Matushka Mildred Soroka

Matushka Mildred [Turko] Soroka, 86, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, fell asleep in the Lord here on Saturday evening, October 24, 2009. She was the wife of the late Very Rev. Leonid Soroka.

Born on February 23, 1923 in Olyphant, PA, the daughter of the late John W. and Tillie S. Turko, Mildred was a graduate of Olyphant High School. In 1942, she graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia. After graduation, she served as a a funeral director with her late father. Upon marriage to the future Father Leonid, she served by his side in parishes in Endicott, NY; Minneapolis, MN; and Detroit, MI. Following Father Leonid’s passing, she relocated with her children and worked in Philadelphia for over 30 years. Adored and loved, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Matushka Mildred is survived by four sons, one daughter, and their families, including nine grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters.

A Memorial for Matushka Mildred will be celebrated at All Saints Church, Olyphant, PA, where she and her husband were married, on Friday, October 30, at 4:00 p.m. The burial service will be at Saint Tikhon’s Monastery Church, South Canaan, PA, followed by interment next to her beloved husband, Father Leonid, at Saint Tikhon’s Cemetery.
