Matushka Olga Hubiak Kovach, 87, wife of Archpriest Dr. Michael Kovach, in retirement attached to Christ the Saviour Church here, fell asleep in the Lord at the Moravian Manor here on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. She had suffered from Alzheimer’s for several years.
Born in the former Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of the late missionaries, Archpriest Afanasy and Susan Wanchisen Hubiak. She grew up in Akron, OH, where she graduated from East High School. She attended Millersville State University as an arts major. She was employed as an executive secretary at Hamilton Watch Company. She was a member of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church and its Altar Guild Society, the Millersville University Book Club, the University Campus Club, and the Cliosophic Society.
Her hobbies were cooking, sewing, arts and crafts, gardening and reading. She also loved to attend musical and theatrical events and to travel.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by her daughter, Helene Dmochowski; her son, Ivan, his wife Jane, and their children, Oliver and Penelope; and her daughter, Sasha.
Others surviving include her brother, Archpriest Daniel Hubiak, and his wife Matushka Dunia; her sister, Matushka Sophie Soroka and her husband, Archpriest Theodore; her sisters-in-law Matushka Eva Hubiak, Ann Hubiak, and Verna Papinchak; and her brother-in-law, Steve Kovach and his wife, Jean. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at Christ the Savior Church, 5501 Old Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA on Friday, March 11, at 9:00 AM. Visitations will be held one hour before the funeral service and Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m., with the Parastas celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Tikhon’s Monastery in South Canaan, PA.
