Matushka Vera Yuschak, 89, widow of the late Archpriest Nicholas Yuschak, fell asleep in the Lord at Neighborhood Health Hospice here on Wednesday evening, August 20, 2014.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Saint Herman of Alaska Church, 1855 Middletown Road, Gradyville, PA. The Funeral Service will commence at 5:00 p.m. On Monday, August 25, a Panikhida will be celebrated at Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery Church, South Canaan, PA, at 11:00 a.m., with interment following at the Monastery Cemetery.
Born September 20, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late John and Sophia Lukashevich, Matushka Vera graduated from Girl’s Commercial High School, Brooklyn, NY in 1942. She and Father Nicholas served numerous parishes, including the Church of the Holy Transfiguration, Brooklyn, NY; Saint John the Baptist Church, Campbell, OH; Saint Nicholas Church, Salem, MA; Saint Nicholas Church, Whitestone, NY; Saint Mary’s Holy Assumption Church, Stamford, CT; Saint Michael’s Church, Newark, NJ; Saints Peter and Paul Church, Endicott, NY; and Holy Trinity Church, Pottstown, PA. Upon retiring, she and Father Nicholas were attached to Saint Herman of Alaska Church, Gradyville, PA.
During World War II, Matushka Vera was a Motor Corps Volunteer Corp for the American Red Cross and a Service Center Hostess at the Grand Lodge Committee on Military and Naval Service. She worked for many years as a secretary in the office of Attorney George J. Meade at Whitestone Savings and Loan Association, Whitestone, NY, and in later years she was employed at Cheesborough Ponds and Dimension Weld, Stamford, CT, and PSE&G, Newark, NJ.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by their daughter, Eugenia.
Matushka Vera is survived by her loving children, son Nicholas, Jr. and daughter-in-law Daria, Bethel, CT; daughter Tatiana and son-in-law Steve Yerkes, Schwenksville, PA; son Gregory, Hudson, WI; son Michael and daughter-in-law Karen Anne, Stafford, VA; and nine grandchildren Nicholas, Timothy, and Sasha Macura; Stephanie, Anastasia, Nicholas, George, and Katherine Yuschak; and Mark Yuschak.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matushka Vera’s memory to Saint Herman of Alaska Church, Gradyville, PA; Saint Tikhon’s Monastery; or Saint Tikhon’s Seminary.
