Riasaphor Monk Vladimir [Poszywak], 70, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born in Lorain on December 5, 1945, the son of the late Walter J. and Katherine [Sarabacka] Poszywak, he retired as a certified machinist in 2000. Earlier he had been employed at US Steel Lorain Works and had served in the US Air Force. He was a 1996 graduate of the Saint Stephen Studies Program of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. Three years later, he successfully completed the Diaconate Program of the Cleveland Deanery at Saint John Monastery, Hiram, OH. His Eminence, Archbishop Job of Chicago tonsured him to monastic rank on June 9, 2002 at Saints Peter and Paul Church, Lorain, where he assisted the parish’s now-retired Rector, Archpriest Basil Stoyka, especially in ministering to Orthodox students at Oberlin College. For five years he served as Arts Director and Instructor at Saint Tikhon’s Summer Camp, South Canaan, PA.
Monk Vladimir is survived by his brother, Alan M. [Kathy] Poszywak, Lakewood, OH; a niece Melissa; and cousins.
Funeral services will be celebrated by Priest Joseph McCartney, Rector, and Father Basil on Saturday, June 4, at Saints Peter and Paul Church at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one our before services. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, OH.
