Preoteasa Persida [Golub] Zmed, [AKA Sadie Smith], beloved wife of the late Archpriest George Zmed Smith, fell asleep in the Lord here recently.
A native of Cerneteaz, Romania, she married George Zmed on October 15, 1942 in Timisoara, Romania. Her husband was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood in 1942 and served parishes in Romania until they emigrated to the US in 1958, at which time they were received into the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America and assigned to Holy Nativity Church, Chicago, IL, where they served until Father George’s retirement in 1983.
Preoteasa Persida is survived by her sons Cornel, Walter and Adrian; grandson Tim; two great-granddaughters; and sister Maraiura Cheie.
Visitation will be held at Holy Nativity Church, 5825 North Mozart Street, Chicago, IL on Tuesday, March 10, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. A Saracusta will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Rosehill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Nativity Church.
