Funeral services for Priest Ignatius Crockett, who fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday evening, January 12, 2017, will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17 at Saint Symeon the New Theologian Church, Birmingham, AL. Visitation will begin at the church at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, with a Memorial slated to be celebrated at 6:30 p.m.
Born in Birmingham on July 20, 1962, the son of Jerry and Peggy Ann [Wade] Crockett, he was received into the Orthodox Church in November 1985 at Saint Symeon Church, where he served as reader. He attended Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA from 1988 to 1991. In June of the same year, he was ordained to the priesthood at Saint Symeon Church by His Eminience, the late Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas and the South. Prior to his retirement for health reasons, he served parishes in Charlotte, NC, and Titusville, FL. In retirement he was attached to Saint Symeon Church where, according to Archpriest Alexander Fecanin, Rector, he “was a blessing to the congregation that loved him dearly.”
Father Ignatius is survived by his daughter, Xenia Marie Crockett, and grandson Jayden Isaiah Crockett. Donations in his memory may be sent to Saint Symeon Church, 3101 Clairmont Avenue, Birmingham, AL 35205.
