Protodeacon Edwin Aasen, 83, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday May 23, 2021. He was born on November 13, 1937, in Vermillion, SD, to Edwin K. and Virginia (Carter) Aasen, Sr.
Protodeacon Edwin was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was ordained to the diaconate by Metropolitan Philip at Saint George Church in Grand Rapids, MI, completed the OCA Late Vocations Program in 1993, and was made a Protodeacon by the Holy Synod of Bishops in 2012.
Protodeacon Edwin actively served the church as a deacon for over 30 years. He was a founding member of Saint Vincent of Lerins Antiochian Orthodox Church in Omaha, NE where he served as their first Deacon. Later he and his wife, Doreen, relocated to Lincoln, NE where he served as the Deacon at Saint John of Kronstadt Orthodox Church. He retired from University of Nebraska Omaha where he was the Director of Administrative Computer Services.
Family members include his wife of 56 years Doreen; children Edwin (Serena) Aasen, III, of Lincoln; Kathryn Aasen, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Veronica, Hannah, Kenslee, and Ellie; great-grandchildren Micah, Makenzie and Malachi; brothers Robert (Gini) and Michael (LuAnn); brother in law Dale Pflaum; Preceded in death by his parents, sister Suzanne Pflaum and infant brother, Gary.
On Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Roper and Sons Funeral Home-Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln, NE 68510 a Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home from 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM, at Saint John of Kronstadt Orthodox Church, 2800 Holdrege Street, Lincoln, NE 68503 with Father James Dank officiating.
