Sister Rachel [Labish] of New Skete Monasteries fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016.
Born Margaret Toth in Pittsburgh, PA in 1921, the daughter of Hungarian immigrants John and Mary [Huzsar] Toth, she was married to Paul Labish for 43 years. After his repose, she became a nun at New Skete, where she served for the past 28 years. Her final years were spent at the Wesley Home, Saratoga, NY, where she pursued friendships with the other residents and the staff and continued her ministry by phone with family, friends, and members and parishioners of New Skete.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Mauser, and her grandson Robert Mauser. She is survived by her sons, Igumen Marc [Labish] of New Skete, Isaac (Cindy) Labish, David (Ann) Labish, Chris (Cheryl) Labish; her daughters Margaret (Steve) Lenart, Veronica Labish, and Susan Labish; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
A Wake will be held at New Skete from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14, with the Funeral Service and interment slated to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday March 15.
