Sister Sarah [Tellier], a nun of New Skete here, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully on the morning of September 29, 2015. She had been in residence at the Wesley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since August 2010, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Born into a Catholic French Canadian family in Taftville, CT in 1931, she entered the Sisters of Mercy at the age of 16. She taught first grade for 28 years and eventually earned a Masters’ degree. After her conversion to Orthodox Christianity, she entered New Skete in 1977. Always striving to serve others, she enjoyed the challenges, joys and sorrows of monastic life. The nuns were able to care for her for nearly 10 years before her move to Wesley. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter and perseverance.
Sister Sarah is survived by the nuns, monks and companions of New Skete; two sisters, seven nieces, two nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial will be celebrated at New Skete on Sunday, October 4 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5 at 11:30 a.m., followed by interment in the New Skete Cemetery.
May Sister Sarah’s memory be eternal!
