OCA represented at funeral of Edward Cardinal Egan
His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon attended the Funeral of Edward Cardinal Egan at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral here on March 10, 2015.
Presiding at the Mass of Christian Burial for his predecessor was the current head of the Catholic Archdiocese of New York, Timothy Cardinal Dolan. Many Catholic bishops took part in the service, including many cardinals. Numerous city and state officials were present, including Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York and Mayor Bill de Blasio of New Yoirk City.
Also attending the funeral rites were His Eminence, Archibishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, accompanied by Archimandrite Nathaniel, Ecumenical Officer of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese; and Bishop David of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Protopresbyter Leonid Kishkovsky, Director of External Affairs and Interchurch Relations of the Orthodox Church in America, accompanied Metropolitan Tikhon.
Cardinal Egan (1932-2015) was Archbishop of New York from 2000 to 2009. He held positions in Rome and in the Archdiocese of Chicago and served as Bishop of Bridgeport prior to his assignment as Archbishop of New York.
