Metropolitan Tikhon Meets with Former Ambassador Sam Brownback at St. Nicholas Cathedral

On Saturday, October 12, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon met with Sam Brownback, the former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

After a short tour of the Cathedral, His Beatitude and Mr. Brownback met to discuss a range of pressing issues, including religious freedom, the role of the Orthodox Church in America within American society and the wider Orthodox Christian world, and the challenges of religious persecution globally.

The meeting highlighted the importance of defending religious freedom, both in the United States and internationally. Their conversation also touched on the increasing persecution of Christians and other religious groups around the world.

Before serving as Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom from 2018 to 2021, Sam Brownback held the position of Governor of Kansas from 2011 to 2018. Earlier in his career, he represented Kansas in both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives. Currently, Ambassador Brownback is the co-chair of the International Religious Freedom Summit, a Senior Fellow at Global Christian Relief, and the chairman of the National Committee for Religious Freedom.

Accompanying His Beatitude was Archpriest Alessandro Margheritino, Secretary of the Orthodox Church in America.
