Archbishop Peter of New York to be Released from Hospital

It is anticipated that His Eminence, Archbishop Peter of New York and New Jersey of the Orthodox Church in America, who was hospitalized on August 20, 2001, will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility during the week of September 16.

Initially, Archbishop Peter had been placed in the Critical Care unit of Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, NY, where he underwent surgery for a variety of internal ailments. During his hospitalization, he fought a series of infections. Several days ago he was transferred to a private room and has made satisfactory improvement. Concerns that the Archbishop was suffering from carcinoma proved to be unfounded.

Archbishop Peter, who presides over nearly 60 parishes, missions and communities throughout New York and New Jersey, will continue to recouperate in a rehabilitation facility in White Plains, NY.
