Detroit site of Liturgical Music Workshop

Mr. Mark Bailey, Lecturer in Liturgical Music at Saint Vladimir Orthodox Theological Seminary, Crestwood, NY will be the featured lecturer and clinician at a liturgical music workshop here Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, 2003.

The workshop, “Gladsome Light: Structure, Function and History in Evening Worship,” will be held at the recently-constructed Saint Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Basilica, 18100 Merriman Road, Livonia, Michigan.

The Friday evening session, which will run from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00, will be geared to conductors, assistant conductors, and conductors in training.

Saturday’s program, which is open to conductors and singers alike, begins with registration and continental breakfast at 9:00 a.m., followed by a presentation titled “Vespers: Form, Function and History.” An afternoon presentation titled “Form and Function in Other Evening Worship” will be followed by a master class for singers and conductors and a rehearsal for Great Vespers, which participants will sing at the conclusion of the day.
