FOCA invites youth to enter creative arts celebration

In cooperation with the Orthodox Church in America’s Church-wide youth movement, the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America [FOCA] will hold its first national creative arts celebration, titled “Celebrations of Faith.”

The celebration is open to all youth who are communicants in a parish or mission of a canonical Orthodox Church in North America. The program will be administered by the Junior FOCA, with Cheryl Morse of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Minneapolis, MN.

Entries will be accepted in five age divisions: under 10, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18. Students may submit works of literature, music composition, photography or visual arts. The deadline for submission of all material, accompanied by an official entry form, is March 31, 2003. Entries will be displayed at the National FOCA Basketball Tournament May 9-11th in Campbell, Ohio where awards will be announced at the banquet and subsequently displayed on the FOCA website.

There is no limit to the number of entries a student may submit. Each entry must be the original work of one student only and an adult may not alter, change, or enhance the creative integrity of a student’s work. All entries will be judged on artistic merit, creativity and interpretation of the theme. All youth who submit an entry will receive recognition and chosen entries in each category will be awarded a US savings bond.

Further information and on-line entry forms may be found in the youth section of the OCA’s web site here and on FOCA’s web site at www.orthodoxfellowship.org.
