Fr. Glagolev to speak at diocesan liturgical music workshop

The Very Rev. Sergei Glagolev will conduct a liturgical music workshop titled “Singing Praises to God: Orthodox Music in the English Language” on April 8, 2006.

WASHINGTON, DC [OCA Communications] — As part of the Orthodox Church in America’s commitment to the advancement of liturgical music in the Diocese of Washington and New York, and with the blessing of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, a liturgical music workshop titled “Singing Praises to God: Orthodox Music in the English Language” will be held at Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral, 59 E. 2 Street, New York, NY on Saturday, April 8, 2006.

The Very Rev. Sergei Glagolev, noted musician and composer, will be the instructor for the day-long conference.

The workshop will explore the reasons services are celebrated in the “language of the people,” ways to ensure that liturgical texts are properly phrased, and a number of related issues.

The workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m.

In order to ensure the viability of the workshop, pre-registration is essential. Checks for the $20.00 registration fee, which includes resources and lunch, should be made payable to the Diocese of Washington and New York and mailed to Glagolev Workshop, c/o 38 Pearl Street, New Hyde Park, NY 11040.
