Fr. Thomas Hopko To Address Orthodox Missions, Evangelism Conference

This year’s Orthodox Conference on Missions and Evangelism will feature three of the leading Orthodox Christian evangelists in the world: Protopresbyter Thomas Hopko, the Very Rev. Peter Gillquist, and the Rev. Daniel Byantoro.

The Conference will be held at the Antiochian Village, just outside Ligonier, Pennsylvania, August 29 - September 1, 2003.

Father Hopko, Dean Emeritus of Saint Vladimir Orthodox Theological Seminary, Crestwood, NY, will speak to the main theme of this year’s conference, “Marks of an Evangelical Mission-Minded Church”, in a four-part series addressing the role of love in missions and evangelism. Father Hopko is a powerful and popular speaker and is the author of numerous books and articles on the Orthodox Christian Faith.

Father Gillquist will present three practical topics: “How to Explain the Orthodox Faith to Others,” “How to Turn Your Kids On to Christ,” and “Building an Outreach Strategy For Your Community.” Father Gillquist is director of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese’s Department of Missions and Evangelism and is author of “Becoming Orthodox” and numerous other works.

Father Byantoro will focus primarily on Islam and Orthodox Christianity. A convert from Islam, Father Byantoro is founder of the Indonesian Orthodox Church.

The Orthodox Conference on Missions and Evangelism is an inter-jurisdictional event hosted by the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese’s Department of Missions and Evangelism and sponsored by the Orthodox Christian Mission Center.
