His Grace, Bishop Alejo elected ruling bishop of Exarchate of Mexico
On Thursday, October 16, 2008, the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America, meeting for its 2008 Fall Session, elected His Grace, Bishop Alejo, as ruling Bishop of Mexico City and the Exarchate of Mexico.
The OCA’s Exarchate of Mexico was received into the Orthodox Church in America in 1972, together with His Grace, the late Bishop Jose [Cortes-y-Olmos]. Bishop Alejo was elected Bishop of Mexico City and Auxiliary for the Exarchate in 2005. With his election as ruling bishop of the Mexican Exarchate, Bishop Alejo now becomes a voting member of the Holy Synod.
The installation of Bishop Alejo will take place on January 18, 2009, at Holy Ascension Cathedral, Mexico City.
May the Lord grant His Grace, Bishop Alejo of Mexico City, and the Exarchate of Mexico many years of fruitful service in His Holy Vineyard. Eis polla eti, Despota!
