Holy Synod of Bishops’ spring session to open Tuesday, March 20

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America will begin its three-day spring session at the Chancery here Tuesday, March 20, 2007.

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, will chair the session, during which a number of episcopal, financial, and administrative matters will be considered.

Among the agenda items is a report by those conducting the special investigation, headed by His Eminence, Archbishop Job of Chicago and the Midwest, and consideration of a series of recommendations approved by members of the OCA Metropolitan Council at their meeting of March 13-14.

The hierarchs will also

  • elect a diocesan hierarch for the Diocese of the West based on the nomination made at that diocese’s assembly.
  • hear reports by the reorganization task force/search committee, and the transition officer.
  • hear a number of financial reports prepared by the independent auditors, FOS/development director, special appeals coordinator, and the pension plan group leader.
  • hear a report on “Best Practices” project and the conformity of its text to New York State law.
  • hear a report from the department of external affairs and interchurch relations.
  • review preliminary plans for the 15th All-American Council, slated to convene in 2008.
  • hear reports on the life of each of the OCA’s dioceses.
  • A number of other items are included in the intensive agenda.

    The Holy Synod will conclude it’s spring session on Thursday, March 22.
