Igumen Sergius [Bowyer] elected Abbot of St. Tikhon’s Monastery
On October 24, 2009 the Brotherhood of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery here elected Igumen Sergius [Bowyer] as their Abbot.
This is the first time in 47 years that an Abbot has been elected from within the monastic community.
“This historic change will enable our Brotherhood to grow in a new and unprecedented direction,” Father Sergius writes in a letter announcing the election. “It is with trust in God and with complete transparency to all that we ask for your support and your prayers as we move forward into a bright and new future.”
Igumen Sergius’ installation as Abbot will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2010.
