Invitation to Participate in the 14th All-American Council Commemorative Program Book
February 7, 2005
To the Clergy, Faithful, Youth Directors, OCF Groups, Youth and Young Adult Groups, Organizations and Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America chapters of all parish and mission communities and institutions of the Orthodox Church in America:
The 14th All-American Council of the Orthodox Church in America will be held this coming July in Toronto, Ontario and one of the features of an All-American Council is the publication of a Commemorative Program Book. The book being prepared for this year’s Council will celebrate the 35th Anniversaries of the granting of Autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in America and the glorification of St. Herman of Alaska, while also looking ahead to “Our Church and the Future,” the theme of the 14th All-American Council. Each person who attends the Council will receive a copy of the book and following the Council, the book will be distributed worldwide throughout the Orthodox Church.
Through articles and photos, the Commemorative Book will recount the historic events of 1970 that laid the foundation for the establishment of numerous new communities across the continent over the past three decades, celebrating their diverse backgrounds that today, make up the rich mosaic of life within the Orthodox Church in America.
Your participation in the publication of the Commemorative Book will provide an opportunity to reflect upon your parish’s role in the future of Orthodoxy on this continent, and share with those who read the it how the Orthodox Church in America continues the mission that began with St. Herman of Alaska in 1794.
It is our hope that every parish community organization, sisterhood, brotherhood, youth group, fellowship group, and even individuals or families will consider participating in this celebration of the history and witness of the Orthodox Church in America. The parish advertisements and listings will be presented according to each diocese along with those photos and remembrances submitted. Please use the enclosed form to submit your listings for inclusion in the 14th All-American Council’s Souvenir Program Book before the deadline of April 15, 2005.
