Liturgical Schedule of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius Great Lent 2002

METROPOLITAN THEODOSIUS’ LENTEN SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, has marked the beginning of Great Lent by celebrating services at Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, DC, Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, Crestwood, New York, and Saint Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary, South Canaan, Pennsylvania.

On Sunday, March 17, Metropolitan Theodosius celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Saint Nicholas Cathedral, while on Monday he celebrated Compline with the Great Canon of Saint Andrew of Crete at Saint Vladimir Seminary, Crestwood, NY. On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19 and 20, he celebrated the Great Canon and the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts at Saint Tikhon Monastery and Seminary, South Canaan, PA. On Saturday, March 23, he will preside at the All-Night Vigil at Saint Nicholas Cathedral, while on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, March 24, he will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at Saint Mark Church, Bethesda, MD and participate in the Triumph of Orthodoxy Vespers Service at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the nation’s capital.

“Orthodox Christians do not celebrate the Resurrection of Christ until May 5 this year, some five weeks after western Christians celebrate Easter,” according to the Very Rev. John Matusiak of the OCA’s Communications Office. “This accounts for the fact that Great Lent does not begin until Monday, March 18.”
