Memorandum to OCA clergy regarding liturgical commemorations of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah

On Monday, November 17, 2008, OCA chancellor, Archpriest Alexander Garklavs issued a memorandum to clergy of the Orthodox Church in America concerning liturgical commemorations of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah.

Fr. Alexander’s memorandum reads as follows.

“In keeping with the practice established by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America, the name of the Primate is to be elevated at all Divine Services before that of the Diocesan Hierarch. This practice is reflected in the service books approved for our use by the Holy Synod of Bishops and is noted in the Guidelines for Clergy, section III, 19, a.

“Therefore, the name and title of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah is to be elevated during the celebration of the Divine Liturgy and at other Divine Services as follows:

“At the Great Litany and the Litany of Fervent Supplication:

For our Metropolitan Jonah, for our (Arch)bishop, (Name)…

“At the Great Entrance:

His Beatitude, the Most Blessed Jonah, Archbishop of Washington and New York, Metropolitan of All America and Canada, and His Eminence/Grace, The Most/Right Reverend (Name), (Arch)bishop of (Title), may the Lord God remember in His Kingdom, always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages.

“At ‘Among the First:’

Among the first, remember, O Lord, His Beatitude, our Metropolitan Jonah, and His Eminence/Grace, our (Arch)bishop (Name). Grant them…”
