Metropolitan Council concludes two-day session, forwards recommendations and considerations to Holy Synod

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — Members of the Metropolitan Council of the Orthodox Church in America concluded their two-day spring session at the Chancery here on Wednesday, March 14, 2007.

While a complete report on numerous items covered on the lengthy agenda is being prepared, a number of issues and decisions are being forwarded to the Holy Synod of Bishops, slated to meet during the week of March 20, for further implementation.

Of special note are several recommendations by the special committee, headed by His Eminence, Archbishop Job of Chicago and the Midwest, conducting an internal investigation of the Church’s finances. Members of the Metropolitan Council accepted the special committee’s recommendations, which will be forwarded to the Holy Synod for further action.

In addition, the names of three recommended candidates for vacant Chancery positions—those of chancellor, treasurer, and ministries and communications director—will be forwarded to the Holy Synod for final confirmation.

Besides considering the actions and recommendations of the Metropolitan Council, members of the Holy Synod will deliberate on a number of other matters affecting the overall life of the Church and their respective dioceses.
