Metropolitan Herman expresses prayerful support to Archbishop Christodoulos and the Greek People

On August 27, 2007, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, sent a letter to His Beatitude, Archbishop Christodoulos of Greece, expressing the prayerful support of the hierarchs, clergy, and faithful of the Orthodox Church in America to the people of Greece, who are suffering from the wild fires that are raging through the southern part of the country.

The text of the letter reads as follows:

“It is with deep sadness that the faithful of the Orthodox Church in America learn of the catastrophic fires that are sweeping through southern Greece at this time.

“History has witnessed that the Greek people are no strangers to both triumph and tragedy. In all things it has been, and continues to be, the belief of the pious Greek Orthodox faithful that has lifted up the Greek nation.

“Be assured that our prayers are with you. May the Merciful Lord grant eternal rest to those men, women, and children who have lost their lives as a result of these fires, and may He grant strength and comfort to those who suffer loss through them, those who are battling them, and to all those concerned for loved ones in the affected areas.

“I also wish to convey to Your Beatitude our hopes and prayers for a swift recovery from your surgery. May our Lord Jesus Christ, the Divine Physician of our souls and bodies, grant you health, well-being, and many years of continued fruitful labor in His Holy Vineyard.”
