Metropolitan Herman sends letter of support to Dioceses of Midwest and South as central US states face flooding

In a letter dated March 21, 2008, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman offered prayerful support to the Dioceses of the Midwest and the South as states across the central part of the US face massive flooding.

The text of Metropolitan Herman’s letter is as follows.

“With heavy hearts we learned yesterday of the widespread flooding in eight states from Illinois to Texas. The full extent of the damaged is yet to be determined. Yet this disaster has already resulted in the loss of property and livelihood and most tragically in the loss of life.

“During this time of Great Lent, as we turn our attention to the inner struggle of fasting and prayer, we must not turn a blind eye to the outer struggles of the world around us. I want to assure you of the prayerful support of our entire Church in this time of crisis.

“As we continue our spiritual preparation for the celebration of Pascha, may the radiance of that great, holy day give strength and peace to those who are affected by this disaster and to those who would seek to ease their suffering.

“May the memory of all who have lost their lives be eternal, and may the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you all.”
