Metropolitan Herman states intention to initiate search for OCA Secretary

In a memorandum dated February 7, 2008, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman notified the Holy Synod and Metropolitan Council of his intention to initiate the search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of OCA Secretary. “In the 2006 reorganization,” Metropolitan Herman wrote, “I committed to clear and balanced separation of responsibilities among four key positions: a Chancellor who focuses on clergy issues; a Treasurer who manages the Church’s finances; a Secretary responsible for administration; and a Director of Ministries and Communications who manages and coordinates communications and Departmental work.”

Presently, the responsibilities of the four managerial positions are divided among the three current Administrative Team members: the Chancellor, also serving as Acting Secretary; the Treasurer, and the Director of Ministries and Communications.

Metropolitan Herman said that the office of Secretary is required by the OCA Statute and therefore cannot be left open indefinitely. He also expressed his concern that the absence of the Secretary’s position, with its numerous responsibilities, “is overburdening the capacities of the very small (Chancery) staff.”

Details on the search for a candidate for OCA Secretary will be released shortly.
