Metropolitan Jonah meets with representatives from Church World Service

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah hosted a delegation from Church World Service [CWS] at the Chancery of the Orthodox Church in America in Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

Founded in 1946, CWS — a ministry of the National Council of Churches of Christ — is engaged in relief, development and refugee assistance ministries.

Metropolitan Jonah meets with representatives from Church World ServiceThe delegation included the Chairman of the CWS Board of Directors, the Right Rev. Johncy Itty; Chief Executive Officer, the Rev. John McCullough; and Advisors to the CEO, the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Dudley and David Weaver. Also present were the two members of the OCA who served on the Board of Directors of CWS, the Very Rev. Leonid Kishkovsky and Mrs. Arlene Kallaur.

During the discussion and lunch, Metropolitan Jonah listened intently as the CWS representatives explained the history, aims and many projects in which the the organization has engaged throughout the world. They also discussed ways the OCA could positively participate in CWS’s mission to eradicate world hunger.

After a visit to Saint Sergius Chapel and an exchange of gifts, the delegation thanked Metropolitan Jonah for his hospitality; he, in return, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to learn more CWS’s good work.

OCA Chancery representatives also present included the Chancellor, the Very Rev. Alexander Garklavs and Secretary, the Very Rev. Eric G. Tosi.
