Music resources to be available on OCA website

In an effort to provide resources for choir directors and parish choirs, the Liturgical Worship Ministries section of the Orthodox Church in America’s Pastoral Life Ministries Unit will make available musical settings of troparia and kontakia for every Sunday of the year 2002 on the OCA’s web site.

The feature will make its debut in January 2002. Of special interest will be the availability of troparia and kontakia for saints commemorated on a particular Sunday.

Musical settings will be available in PDF format for easy reading and downloading via Acrobat Reader. There is no cost for this service, which will be available at Music Downloads.

Coordinating the project are V Rev Alexander Garklavs, Unit Coordinator of the Pastoral Life Ministries Unit, Mr. Walter Obleschuk, choir director at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Boston, MA and Prof. Paul Meyendorff of St. Vladimir Orthodox Theological Seminary, Crestwood, NY.

“If there is sufficient support and interest in this project, it will be renewed in 2003,” according to Protopresbyter Robert Kondratick, OCA Chancellor. “In the course of several years, troparia and kontakia for feasts and saints of the entire Menaion will be made available, making an invaluable resource for years to come.”
