New Resource Handbook articles address parish computer use, a Christian approach to confrontation, and ideas to help missions grow

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — A wide range of topics is covered in three articles recently added to the on-line “Resource Handbook for Lay Ministries” on the web site of the Orthodox Church in America at http://www.oca.org.

In the Parish Development section, Protodeacon Kirill Sokolov begins a series of articles on “Using Technology in Service to the Church.” The first in this series deals with the basic infrastructure that needs to be in place to begin an effective computer program for the parish.

In the same section is a timely article titled “Appropriate Confrontation in a Spirit of Christian Love” by Doria Saros, who offers advice on how to confront others and issues in a Christian manner when confrontation seems imminent.

Ten Simple Ways to Encourage Missions” by Father Eric Tosi, chairman of the OCA Department of Evangelization, begins with a reflection on a quote from the late Father Alexander Schmemann: “To recover the missionary dimension of the Church is today’s greatest imperative.” Reflecting on the significant recent growth of missions in the Orthodox Church in America, Father Eric offers ten simple ways to encourage and assist missions in their growth. In so doing, he points out, parishes and individuals who reach out to help missions are themselves reenergized.
