NYC-Area Orthodox Choir Responds to Tsunami Disaster

On Saturday, February 5, 2005, the Spirit of Orthodoxy Choir, directed by Aleksei Shipovalnikov, will present an afternoon concert of Russian Orthodox choral music at Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral, 59 East 2 Street, New York, NY at 2:00 p.m. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the International Orthodox Christian Charities’ Asia Disaster Response.

The choir is composed of singers from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The choir’s music witnesses to the range and quality of the liturgical life of the Orthodox Church.

Born in Russia, Mr. Shipovalnikov established an excellent reputation for choral excellence in Russia, Germany and Poland before moving to the US in 1990. He has served as music director in parishes in California and New Jersey. He and the choir were recently featured on News12 Westchester.
