OCA faithful called to support Church Planting Grant Fund

As applications for Church Planting Grants for the year 2010 are received from Orthodox Church in America missions, the Department of Evangelization is again appealing to clergy and faithful to support the Church Planting Grant Fund.

“Each year the department awards grants to qualified OCA missions across North America,” according to the Very Rev. Marcus C. Burch, who chairs the Department of Evangelization. “The grants are for up to $20,000.00 per year for first year recipients and can be renewed for a total of three years. Grants must be specifically used to help provide a salary for a full-time resident priest and must be matched by the same amount by the qualifying mission.”

“This year the Church Planting Grant Appeal was held in the spring in conjunction with the feast of Pentecost,” said OCA Director of Ministries and Communications, the Very Rev. Andrew Jarmus. “To date, we have received slightly over $18,000.00 for the Church Planting Grant. Our last appeal raised enough funds to award grants to five qualifying OCA Missions. Our hope is to reach or surpass last year’s amount, but this will only be possible through the generous support of our membership.”

Church Planting Grant donations are designated funds used for the sole purpose of the OCA Church Planting Grant program. Donations may be sent directly to the OCA Chancery, PO Box 675, Syosset, NY, 11791.
