OCA Holy Synod of Bishops and Metropolitan Council to hold 2009 Fall Sessions

The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America and the OCA’s Metropolitan Council will hold their fall sessions from Tuesday, September 22 through Friday, September 25, 2009. The bodies will meet both in separate and joint sessions.

Among the items to be discussed in joint session are the idea of “conciliarity” and its canonical foundations and historical and contemporary expressions; current legal issues facing the Church; OCA finances to-date in 2009 and the approval of a 2010 budget; and the strategic planning process mandated by delegates to the OCA’s 15th All-American Council in November 2008.

Also part of the agenda of the Holy Synod and Metropolitan Council’s fall sessions is an evening retreat led by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah on the theme “Spiritual Sobriety.”

Several meetings preceded the opening of the Fall Sessions. On Monday, September 21, members of the Strategic Planning Committee met with invited experts to discuss the strategic plan from the perspective of the current life and structure of the OCA and its historical development to this time. The Metropolitan Council Finance Committee also met, as did the the Board of Theological Education. One week earlier, on September 15, the OCA Pension Board met.

More information on the fall sessions of the Holy Synod of Bishops and the Metropolitan Council will be posted as it becomes available.
