Reorganization of the Chancery Staff

In light of a yearlong evaluation of the structure of the Chancery and Church Administration, His Beatitude, Metropolitan THEODOSIUS has moved forward toward implementing a reorganization plan.

At the conclusion of the 12th All-American Council, His Beatitude, Metropolitan THEODOSIUS proposed the election of Protopresbyter Robert S. Kondratick, whose term had expired, as Chancellor of the Church for the next triennium. At the same time, the appointment of Protodeacon Eric Wheeler as Treasurer of the Orthodox Church in America for the last triennium had also expired. In his statement to the Holy Synod of Bishops and the Metropolitan Council, Metropolitan THEODOSIUS indicated that all other Chancery positions were under review for appointment.

On September 29, 1999 Metropolitan THEODOSIUS presented to the Lesser Synod of Bishops his decision to begin taking steps in the implementation of the reorganization plan of the Chancery.

A central element of the yearlong evaluation of the administrative structure of the Central Church Administration is the proposal to redefine the functions of the Treasurer and to out-source the majority of the technical financial operations.

His Eminence, Archbishop HERMAN has been appointed by His Beatitude, Metropolitan THEODOSIUS as the Acting Treasurer of the Orthodox Church in America.

His Beatitude, Metropolitan THEODOSIUS expresses his thanks and appreciation to Protodeacon Eric Wheeler for his eleven years of administrative service to the Central Church Administration.

Until further notice, all inquiries concerning the Health Plan of the Orthodox Church in America are to be directed to Mr. Paul Hunchak at the Chancery Office or to the Administrator of the OCA Health Plan, Mr. George Caravakas at +1.800.785.4432. Also, any inquiries concerning the OCA Life Insurance Program are to be directed to Mr. Paul Hunchak or to the Orthodox Society of America at +1.800.420.1470.

The next steps to be taken in the implementation of the reorganization plan of the administrative structure of the Orthodox Church in America’s Central Church Administration are being reviewed by Metropolitan THEODOSIUS. His Beatitude’s conclusions will be reflected in his report to and discussion with the Holy Synod of Bishops and the Metropolitan Council at their scheduled meetings in October and November 1999, respectively.
