SCOBA Hierarchs meet at OCA Chancery, honor Metropolitan Theodosius

Member hierarchs belonging to the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas [SCOBA] met at the Chancery of the Orthodox Church in America here on Thursday, August 1, 2002.

Chaired by His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, the meeting marked the first time His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, newly-elected Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, hosted a SCOBA meeting.

In addition to regular agenda items, including reports from International Orthodox Christian Charities and the Orthodox Christian Mission Center, the hierarchs honored His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius, who retired July 22, 2002 as Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, during a luncheon marking the occasions.

The hierarchs offered words of thanks to Metropolitan Theodosius and reflected on his 25 years of ministry to the Church and active participation in SCOBA. They also presented him with appropriate gifts on his retirement from active ministry.

In addition to Metropolitan Herman and Archbishop Demetrios, other hierarchs attending the meeting included His Eminence, Metropolitan Philip of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America; His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese; His Eminence, Archbishop Anthony of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA; His Eminence, Metropolitan Joseph of the Bulgarian Patriarchate; His Eminence, Archbishop Nicolae of the Romanian Patriarchate. Also attending the meeting were His Grace, Bishop Dimitrios of Xanthos, Auxiliary to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and His Grace, Bishop Nikon of Baltimore, Auxiliary to Metropolitan Herman.
