St. Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, DC to mark 9/11 Anniversary

The Orthodox Church in America’s Saint Nicholas Cathedral in the U.S. capital will be marking the first anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with special events and services on September 11, 2002.

The cathedral will open at 7:00 a.m. and will remain open throughout the day for prayer and reflection. At approximately 8:47 a.m., the time the first attack on the World Trade Center occurred, until 11:00 a.m., the cathedral bells will toll. Concurrently, cathedral faithful will read the names of everyone who perished in the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington and in the Pennsylvania airline crash.

The day will conclude with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m.

The church, which serves as the cathedral of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, is located at 3500 Massachusetts Avenue NW.
