St. Tikhon’s Monastery welcomes Sitka Mother of God, celebrates St. Alexis Toth at 105th Annual Pilgrimage

The Sitka Icon of the Mother of God arrives at St. Tikhon's MonasteryThe 105th Annual Pilgrimage to St. Tikhon’s Monastery opened Friday, May 22, 2009, with the greeting of and procession with the wonder-working Sitka Icon of the Mother of God. The Sitka Icon of the Mother of God is at the monastery for the pilgrimage with the blessing of His Grace, Bishop Benjamin of San Francisco and the West, Locum tenens of the Diocese of Alaska.

In addition to the traditional cycle of liturgical services, this year’s pilgrimage features a number of new events and opportunities for prayer and worship, including a youth procession and youth center, the celebration of the Akathistos honoring St. Alexis, and a special “Orthodox dollar store” sponsored by St. Tikhon’s bookstore.

The pilgrimage closes on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
