St. Vladimir’s Seminary to hold annual Education Day October 7

You’re invited to attend the 37th annual Orthodox Education Day held at Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, October 7, 2006.

CRESTWOOD, NY [OCA Communications] — The faculty, staff, and student body of Saint Vladimir’s Seminary here extends a warm invitation to the public to attend the 37th annual Orthodox Education Day on the school’s campus on Saturday, October 7, 2006.

The theme of this year’s event is “All Ages, One Faith: Exploring the Inter-Generational Nature of the Orthodox Church.”

“This annual outdoor event draws large groups of people from Orthodox parishes all over the country for a day of worship, education, and fellowship,” said John Congdon, a seminary spokesperson. “Tents on the lawn will house the Divine Liturgy and the keynote address, a special display of books and other items from SVS Press and bookstore, a variety of ethnic foods, and special activities for children.”

Attendees will also be able to tour the campus throughout the day, offering an opportunity for visitors gain a “behind the scenes” look at the seminary and its life.

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America and seminary president, will preside at the opening Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m., assisted by visiting bishops, clergy, and faithful from many Orthodox communities. The afternoon’s keynote address, to be delivered by the Rev. Harry Pappas, the seminary’s new associate professor of pastoral theology, and afternoon workshops will explore various aspects of the day’s theme.

Orthodox Education Day is free of charge and will take place rain or shine.

More information on the day’s schedule, workshops, speakers, and exhibitors are available on the seminary’s web site at www.svots.edu.
