Archbishop David to speak at STOTS 77th Commencement Exercises May 25
His Eminence, Archbishop David of Sitka and Alaska, will be the main speaker at the 77th annual Commencement Exercises at Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary [STOTS] on Saturday, May 25, 2019. The Commencement Exercises will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the seminary’s newly renovated Convocation Center. In the evening, a Graduation Banquet will be held to honor the Class of 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hotel Anthracite, Carbondale, PA.
Archbishop David is member of the Saint Tikhon’s Seminary Class of 1997. He went on to receive Bachelor Degrees in Theology and Philosophy in 2003 and a Master of Arts degree in Theology in 2005, all from the University of Scranton.
Ordained to the diaconate in 1981 and to the priesthood in 1993, he served Saint Michael Church, Old Forge, PA from 1993-2006; Holy Trinity Church, Pottstown, PA from 2006-2009; and Saint Nicholas Church, Bethlehem, PA from 2009 until his consecration to the episcopacy in 2014. Throughout his priesthood, he also served as a graduate assistant in the University of Scranton’s Theology Department, a lecturer at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, and an lecturer in Theology and Philosophy at Alvernia University’s Melrose Park Campus in Philadelphia. He also served as Dean of the Philadelphia Deanery and Administrator and Chancellor of the Diocese of Alaska.
Archbishop David was elected to the See of Sitka and Alaska in October 2013 and consecrated in February 2014. At the Holy Synod of Bishops’ Spring Session in May 2019, he was elevated to the dignity of Archbishop.
