Assembly of Bishops releases study on Orthodox Generosity and Giving to the Church
On September 10, 2015, the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America released a new study, titled “Exploring Orthodox Generosity: Giving in US Orthodox Parishes.”
The 138-page report is accompanied by a brief summary that shares the highlights of the study. The study was prepared by the Assembly’s research coordinator, Alexei D. Krindatch.
The study, issued less than one week before the Assembly’s sixth annual meeting in Chicago, IL September 15-17, addresses religious giving of Orthodox Church members to their home parishes and to wider religious causes and explores the differences in giving between members of various Orthodox jurisdictions and parishioners according to certain demographics. Based on its findings, the study provides suggestions as to how Orthodox parishes might increase the generosity of parishioners.
More than 2,800 Orthodox Church members (lay parishioners) representing all Orthodox jurisdictions participated in this unique study.
The full report may be accessed here, while a summary highlighting major findings is available here.
Earlier studies and reports on various aspects of Orthodox Christianity in North America, conducted by Mr. Krindatch, may be found here.
