Bishop Tikhon visits site of rectory fire

His Grace, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania visited Saint John the Baptist Church here on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, offering support to Priest Adam Sexton, his wife and their eight children, and the parish faithful in the aftermath of the fire that raged through the parish rectory on Sunday, March 4.

“For Orthodox Christians, it’s not an obstacle, it’s the reality but it’s a difficult reality to face these things, and we turn to Christ where we can find that hope and consolation…” said Bishop Tikhon in a report aired on WNEP Channel 16.

“I could tell by the flames this was a very awful basement fire and basement fires people know are lethal and had we been asleep, we would have all been dead. Thank God we were not asleep and all praying here instead,” said Father Adam.

WNEP reported that Nanticoke volunteer firefighters, for whom Father Adam serves as chaplain, announced Wednesday they will be donating all of the proceeds from their annual breakfast in April to the Sexton family.
