Christian Education focus of OCEC workshop at St. Tikhon’s Seminary

Seminarians and their spouses recently participated in a full-day Christian Education workshop at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary here.  Sponsored by the Orthodox Christian Education Commission [OCEC], the program featured presentations by Archpriest George Alberts, Khouria Anna Hughes, and Matushka Myra Kovalak.

Archpriest Dr. Steven Voytovich, Dean, welcomed the speakers as morning sessions got underway.  Two tracks were offered—Teacher Training with Father George and Church School Director training with Matushka Myra.  A variety of OCEC publications were on display for review.  Many seminarians commented not only on the value of the training they received, but also on the awareness it provided with regard to the many resources available for use in their future parish communities.

“We are grateful to our three presenters for all they shared with us,” said Father Steven.  “And we are especially grateful to Maria Sheehan and those working with her whose coordination made this event possible!”

The OCEC—an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA—offers training events for those engaged in religious education, utilizing resources developed by all Orthodox jurisdictions in North America.  Since its establishment in the mid-1960s, OCEC has published curriculum materials for all ages, children through adult.  A wealth of information and resources are available on the OCEC web site.
