Five-alarm fire at South Boston’s St. John the Baptist Church
As this release is being posted, firefighters are battling a five-alarm fire at Saint John the Baptist Albanian Orthodox Church here.
The fire—which was reported shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21—shot through the roof and is spreading thick smoke throughout the area.
The crews of at least six ladder trucks attempted to attack the flames, but when the roof was in danger of collapsing, firefighters were ordered out of the building.
There is no immediate word on the cause of the blaze, but unconfirmed reports indicate that no one was in the building at the time.
