“Healing Earth” theme of October 13-15 ecology conference
The mission parish of Saint Aidan of Lindisfarne here will sponsor a conference titled “Healing Earth: Orthodox Christian Perspectives on Ecology and Climate Change” October 13-15, 2016.
“This subject is one which is of great and growing concern to all of humanity, and the Orthodox Church has much wisdom to share,” said Priest Andrew Applegate, Saint Aidan’s Rector. “The saints throughout all the centuries have understood and taught that Christ came to unite the entire cosmos; all of life and creation is full of the sustaining life of God, Who is ‘everywhere present and filling all things.’ The time is now to raise the visibility and bring the awareness and discussion into our parishes and to the society in which we live.
“This is our issue, and we have much in the wisdom of the saints and our life in Christ to contribute,” Father Andrew added. “We hope that many faithful will consider joining us as we pray, listen, contribute to the discussion, and take ‘back home’ to our parishes that which God reveals to us.”
Speakers include Archpriest Michael Oleksa, Priests Kaleeg Hainsworth and Nilos Nellis, and Mark Sandford. Presentations also will be offered by Fred Krueger, Executive Director of the Fellowship of the Transfiguration; Shayna Jones, who will demonstrate traditional storytelling arts; and Orthodox Christian recording artists Jeremy and Sheree Eisenhauer. Speakers’ biographies, together with information on housing, a detailed conference schedule, costs, and a list of topics are available in the on-line conference brochure.
“Early bird” on-line registration at the discounted rate of $120 CAN is available through September 26, after which the registration fee increases to $160 CAN. The registration fee includes all conference sessions, breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday, and all materials. Conference sessions will be held at the CP Hotel Royal Alexandra Hall.
