His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon celebrates services for Holy Pentecost at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, DC
On Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated services for Pentecost at St. Nicholas Cathedral. Concelebrating with His Beatitude were Archpriest George Kokhno, associate priest, and Deacon Igor Panyutin. The responses were sung by the cathedral choir under the direction of Mr. Kevin Fritts.
On the eve of the feast, His Beatitude presided at the Festal Vigil. On the morning of the feast, His Beatitude presided at the celebration of the hierarchical Divine Liturgy which was followed by the Vespers of Pentecost with Kneeling Prayers. During the liturgy, His Beatitude delivered the homily in which he encouraged the faithful to be Christ-like in their individual vocations, having received their portion of the Spirit like the saints of the Church who have gone before them.
His Beatitude also announced his intent to hold quarterly retreats within the Archdiocese of Washington to further growth and formation for readers, subdeacons, deacons, and choir directors.
Following the Vespers of Pentecost, Fr. George Kokhno greeted His Beatitude on behalf of the cathedral community and His Beatitude greeted everyone in the joy of the Feast.
