Metropolitan Council Spring Session opens February 16
The Spring Session of the Metropolitan Council of the Orthodox Church in America will open on Tuesday, February 16 and conclude on Thursday, February 18, 2016.
The session will be chaired by His Beatitude, Metropolitan TIkhon. Members of the Standing Synod of Bishops also will be present.
“Metropolitan Tikhon will continue discussions with the Metropolitan Council members on his Apostolic Work of the Church which is contained in his ‘Four Pillars’ that emphasize the centrality of Spiritual Life, Stewardship, Evangelism and Outreach and External Relations for the next triennium,” said Archpriest Eric G. Tosi, OCA Secretary. “A major portion of the meeting will be dedicated to the ongoing strategic planning for the next triennium in order to implement the decisions of the 18th All-American Council and with the direction provided by His Beatitude and the Holy Synod.”
Other agenda items include a review of the new finance plan of the OCA as implemented on January 1, 2016, and other legal and administrative issues. Metropolitan Council members also will review reports from all committees, departments and offices as they continue to evaluate their work in regards to the budgetary process.
The Metropolitan Council is the permanent executive body of the Church Administration which exists for the purpose of implementing the decisions of the All-American Council and continuing its work between sessions. Members include the Metropolitan, who serves as Chair; the Chancellor, the Secretary, and the Treasurer; one priest and one layperson elected by each diocese; and three priests and an equal number of laypersons elected by the All-American Council.
